Responding Flexibly
Responding flexibly is defined as doing something you are not used to doing or you weren’t intending to do, as the situation requires. It is the capability of undertaking short-term goals, swiftly and with composure to solve unforeseen problems or tasks effectively. Flexibility is a valuable trait in the workplace. It allows individuals to adapt to changing circumstances, find creative solutions, and maintain a positive attitude. When crises occur, flexible people remain resilient, helping stabilize the situation. They also contribute by ensuring that goals remain attainable and by providing support to colleagues (Mind Tools Content Team, 2018).
Responding flexibly can be developed by:
1. Focusing on your core values.
2. Being open-minded.
3. Developing your skill set.
4. Being optimistic.
5. Staying calm.
6. Planning ahead.
7. Having a strong support network.
Personal statement about Responding Flexibly:
Being able to keep composure in circumstances that I did not anticipate will help me think in much more clearer way, and therefore a better problem-solver.
Post development personal statement:
Responding Flexibly is an important competency that I should continue to work on using the breathing and centering techniques I have learned about.
