Leading
Leading means to exert influence and control. Leading is the management function of leadership which entails having an effect on individuals to participate in behaviours which lead to organisational goals being achieved. Leading is done through communicating, motivating, inspiring, and encouraging colleagues to increase their productivity (Villagonzalo, 2019).
Leading in the workplace means that (The University Of British Columbia , n.d.):
1. Employees are enthusiastic about upholding the organisation’s visions and achieving their goals and commitments.
2. An optimistic and inclusive collaborative atmosphere is created.
3. The organisation develops a culture of habitually providing good and beneficial feedback, acknowledgement, leadership, and personal and professional development.
4. Teams collaborate to set explicit performance expectations.
5. There are opportunities reflect on why you might be avoiding giving feedback to address behaviour or performance.
6. Recognize that people learn most effectively by applying skills on the job, coupled with feedback. Identify projects or tasks that can enhance each individual’s capabilities.
Personal statement about Leading:
I believe that the Leading competency is important for me to develop because it is useful in collaborative projects.

Learning about Leading and the different facets of leading support my initial idea that it is important in collaborative projects that I have the capability to lead if the situation calls for it.
